The Story of Reeds Groves
In 1882 William Wallace Reed my great-great grandfather, moved from Harmony, Maine to sunny tropical Florida with a dream of growing oranges and building a better life for his family. Like so many others, he was drawn by the promise made by Henry Flagler and the Florida East Coast Railway, which encouraged settlement and fruit farming along the rail line. Florida citrus was the future, and Great-Great-Granddaddy Reed was all in.
Well… here we are, over a century later, still living in sunny Florida… and still trying to get rich growing oranges.
Reeds Groves has been a part of this community for generatioins, and for over 60 years, sending Florida citrus to friends and family across the country has been a cherished tradition for our customers. Our Navel oranges and Star Ruby grapefruit remain our most popular gift fruits, available in boxes ranging from 10 pounds all the way up to 40 pounds. Many of the folks ordering today are children, even grandchildren of customers who have been buying from us for decades.
My Granddaddy always said, “Customer service is why we’ve been in business so long. You can’t rip people off and stay in business for six generations.” That philosophy still guides everything we do.
For the last 30 years the heart of Reeds Groves was my grandmother, Penny Reed. If you ever called the fruit stand, placed an order of stopped by to chat, chances are Penny ws the voice you heard and the smile you remember. She built relationships, remembered names, and treated every customer like family. In 2025, we lost Penny, and with her, a piece of this place that can never truly be replaced.
But her love, her standards, and her care live on.
I’m Brionna, Penny’s granddaughter, and I’m proud to be continuing our family business with the same values she taught me, honesty, kindness, hard work, and taking care of people first. Reeds Groves isn’t just a business to me; it’s my family’s legacy, my childhood, and my responsibility to steward something bigger than myself.
While our website allows you to order gift fruit online, you don’t have to. We also have a storefront where you’re always welcome to stop by, pick out your own fruit, ask questions, sample citrus, and visit with us in person. Whether you’re a longtime customer or discovering us for the first time, we’d love to meet you.
This website, much like the business itself, is a work in progress. Some of the information here comes from years of research, old books, family stories, and passed-down knowledge. It may not be perfectly complete or 100% exact, but it’s honest, and it’s growing. We’ll continue adding to it as we go.
If you’re here to send a box of Florida sunshine, learn about citrus, find a recipe, or simply learn more about who we are, we’re glad you’re here. And if you ever have a question, suggestion, or correction, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at ReedBrionna@yahoo.com
